Brief: Develop a graphic installation for the Frisco Library’s stair guardrails that reflects what a library represents to its community—both in purpose and in feeling. Our team was awarded the project through a concept centered on Discovery.

The artwork was designed to be explored from multiple vantage points. Visible on both sides of the perforated guardrail panels, the composition maintains a consistent base linework structure to ensure clarity and legibility while preserving an open, airy quality. Varying scales of detail invite close inspection, while larger illustrative moments—each representing one of the five themes—anchor the narrative and remain impactful from afar, allowing the story of exploration to be appreciated throughout the library.

Transition

Between each illustration, we developed custom transition panels to create a seamless visual flow—allowing the installation to read as one unified composition rather than a series of discrete panels. In total, the final scope comprised 59 unique pieces, including both illustrated and transitional elements.

The stair guardrails introduced a more complex geometry, requiring select illustrations to be thoughtfully adapted in order to preserve the fluidity of the overall composition.

The selected concept, “Community of Explorers”, positions the library as an active site of curiosity and discovery. Anchored in the themes of Culture, Creativity, Nature, Community, and Imagination, the installation invites engagement at every scale.

I led the visual development of the illustrated panels, creating original artwork that unfolds through layered detail and seamless transitions. The continuous composition encourages sustained viewing and rewards curiosity.

Community survey feedback informed the narrative direction, ensuring the final installation reflected Frisco’s vibrant and diverse population.
